Congratulations to Doreen Hosey
Doreen has received special recognition for her selfless work in the community. Fundraiser Doreen Hosey was presented with the 2006 Fawley Parish Council Chairman’s Cup for her tireless work with local charities – often raising money by selling her tasty home-baked goods.

Announcing the award, chairman Cllr McEvoy said, “The Chairman’s Cup is awarded every year to a resident in the parish whom the council believes has made a selfless contribution to the community.”

Doreen began raising funds for The Diabetic Society in 1988, mainly from the sale of pies, cakes and pickles, and between then and 2002, she raised £31,155. In the last three years alone, she has raised £7,700 for Oakhaven Hospice.

“All this work has involved effort by Doreen and her husband Arthur that over the years has meant not only practically non-stop cooking but also religious attendance at produce stalls and events in the local area,” added Cllr McEvoy at Fawley’s Annual Parish Meeting. “Doreen is a very worthy recipient of this award.”

• Fawley Church Floodlighting
Readers of the Here and Now magazine have contacted the Editor about the publication of Floodlighting details in memory of loved ones. As it stands, the magazine has a production cycle of about 2 months, hence, the February 2006 magazine will carry details of all the floodlighting for the month of December 2005, and so on.

The webteam have suggested a "Floodlighting Page" on the church website so that once floodlighting details come into the Editor/Web team's inbox, the page can be updated in order for people to see their donation for floodlighting information without waiting for publication in the Here and Now.

The magazine will continue to carry the floodlighting details as normal, so those without Internet access can still view the information in the usual way.
The page will be archived, so that over time, visitors to the site can view the Floodlighting Memorials to loved ones.

A ‘New’ Church Drama Group?
The Fawley Players will be meeting on Wednesday 18th January 7:30p.m. at The Rectory, Sherringham Close, Fawley. Our first ‘Pantomime in 2004, ‘A Lad in a Manger’ was well received. We’re very sorry that the 2005 panto had to be postponed. Better luck this year! Interested in being involved? Simply come along!
A Request from Quest
Hazel has asked that we encourage people to keep their wine corks, and the rectangular take-away containers over the festive season for Quest please.
The corks (used for handwork) are expensive to buy from the supplier, and much more fun when you can drink the contents before passing the cork on.

• Saturday Club Outing
The Saturday club group, along with a few mums & family went on their annual outing on 18th June to Moors Valley Country Park. It was the hottest Saturday of the month and we were grateful of the shade provided by the forest whilst we played through the adventure trail. Stopping for a packed lunch when we found a shady spot and a welcome ice-cream at the end of the trail. There was still enough energy to play on the climbing frames and swing down the ariel slides before a tired group of youngsters clambered into the bus for the sleep home.

• Sincere Thanks
The congregation at The Good Shepherd said goodbye to Beryl Fowler on the 22nd May 2005. It was her last service as our musician after 20 years of faithful service there. Beverley and Melvin Pugh have faithfully distributed the parish magazine for many years, but as they say, ‘all good things come to an end’. Our sincere thanks to Beryl, Beverley & Melvin for all their hard work.

On behalf of all the residents who took part, I would like to thank everyone who came to see our lights and contributed towards the amazing total of over £10,000. Oakhaven Hospice received £600 and with the devastating news of the Tsunami it was unanimously agreed to send £1000 to the disaster fund. Our grateful thanks also go to Sue and the Choir for the carol singing which is now a regular and very special part of the “Turn-On” evening. The date for 2005 is Saturday 10 December at 6pm – SEE YOU THERE!

• A Lad in a Manger
Everyone loves a pantomime and there's no better time of year than Christmas to celebrate the triumph of good over evil, so says Kevin Mayhew who wrote 'A Lad in a Manger'. December 10th/11th seems a long time ago now but I would like to say it was a magical experience. The cast were a pleasure to work with and every job was in competent hands. What was great was the superb team effort from eight to eighty something.A super achievement - well done everybody. Here's to the next time!
