Safeguarding Policy Statement

The Parish of Fawley

(All four Churches) regards child protection and good working practice as a priority.

In the interests of the safety and well being of all children and young people, it has developed and operates a formal child protection policy.

The churches are committed to ensuring that everyone working with children or young people:

  • have undergone a Criminal Records Bureau check at enhanced level,
  • are adequately trained and supervised,
  • understand and follow the church's child protection policy.

The child protection policy may be viewed at any of the four churches:

  • ALL SAINTS CHURCH
    Marsh Lane, Fawley, Southampton
  • GOOD SHEPHERD CHURCH
    Roewood road, Holbury, Southampton.
  • SAINT FRANCIS CHURCH
    West Common, Langley, Southampton.
  • SAINT GEORGE'S CHURCH  -
    Tristan Close, Calshot, Southampton.

As part of the commitment of all four churches' to children and young people it has appointed SARAH MANHOOD as Safeguarding Officer. All children and young people involved in activities within the church know who she is and how she can be contacted.

All concerns and suspicions must be reported as soon as possible to SARAH MANHOOD (hereafter the "Safeguarding officer") tel no: 023 8089 9310 who is nominated by the church to act on their behalf in dealing with all concerns and suspicions, including referring the matter on to the statutory authorities.

In the absence of the Safeguarding officer then the report should be made to REV'D BARRY JAMES (Parish Rector) tel no: 023 8089 3552. If both the safeguarding officer and the Parish Rector are unavailiable the report should be made to JANE FISHER (Director for Safeguarding) tel no: 01962 737318 or emergency contact tel no: 079 2186 5374.

The church will support the Safeguarding officer in her role, and accept that any information that they may have in their possession will be shared in a strictly limited way on a need to know basis.

The Parish of Fawley (All four Churches) endeavours to:

  • recognise that child protection is everyone's responsibility.
  • be committed to supporting parents and families.
  • recognise the unique and individual worth of each child.
  • be committed to nurturing, protecting and safeguarding children and young people.
  • exercise care in the appointment of those working with children and young people in the church, working to 'Safe from Harm' principles.
  • be committed to following statutory, denominational (if relevant) and specialist guidelines in working with children and young people.
  • seek support all those affected by abuse.
  • be committed to supporting and resourcing those who work with children and young people and provide regular supervision.
  • review the child protection policy annually and amend accordingly.

IF YOU HAVE ANY CONCERNS FOR A CHILD OR IN RELATION TO ANY CHILD PROTECTION MATTER THEN PLEASE SPEAK TO THE SAFEGUARDING OFFICER.
